With numerous changes occurring in the industry over over the last several years, it may appear that smaller companies lacking major publisher support would have to abandon long-term projects. Yet, MercurySteam has defied this notion, as the commercial success of Metroid Dread has acted as a testament and encouragement for their other venture, which was revealed in 2021: Project Iron.
Aside from an exclusive interview conducted by the studio director, Enric Álvarez, with a media outlet, there has been little information regarding the progress of this title, which will be published by a distribution company. What we do know is that it’s being crafted using their proprietary Mercury Engine and aims to be a highly ambitious dark fantasy experience. Back in 2023, we noted not to anticipate any updates about the game until at least 2025, and this timeline has remained accurate.
The social media update shared below serves as the sole indication that Project Iron is advancing, leading to speculation about a forthcoming significant announcement from the studio. We will continue to monitor any new developments surrounding this title. In the meantime, interested parties may want to reference the interview with Enric Álvarez, where he reflects on the shortcomings of Spacelords and the insights gained for their next endeavor.
