In a recent conversation, Nicholas Hoult shared insights into his role as Lex Luthor in an upcoming Superman film directed by James Gunn. He highlighted that his interpretation of Luthor combines intelligence with a lack of mercy, as he aims to outwit Superman in ways that do not require direct confrontation. Hoult remarked that although viewers may find Luthor's tactics questionable, they might still grasp his rationale and his belief that his viewpoint could ultimately serve humanity better.

During a discussion with ComicBook, Hoult expressed enthusiasm for being part of a project within James Gunn's creative universe. He characterized this universe as emotionally charged and impactful, while also expansive in its storytelling.

He elaborated on how this rendition of Luthor would showcase unprecedented levels of shrewdness and determination. "With this Lex, it's clear that he is both intelligent and merciless, forced to outsmart Superman in ways that leverage his unique strengths," he explained. "While his methods may not align with everyone's beliefs, there are aspects of his perspective that allow for understanding, suggesting that his views on what is better for mankind warrant consideration."

The movie features David Corenswet in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan portraying Lois Lane, and it is scheduled to premiere on July 11, 2025.
