Google Gemini Launches Spotify Integration for Enhanced Music Experience on Android

Google Gemini is enhancing its functionality with a newly introduced extension that enables seamless access to music from the Spotify application. This feature will be supported by the Gemini artificial intelligence assistant on select Android devices. By linking their Spotify account to their Google account, users can utilize the AI-driven virtual assistant to request music including songs, albums, artists, playlists, and more. It's important to note that some features will require users to have a Spotify Premium subscription.

According to the information provided on their support page, Google has outlined the features of the new extension for the Gemini application. This sought-after functionality for the AI assistant arrives six months after the introduction of an extension that integrated YouTube Music features. If users connect both Spotify and YouTube Music but do not specify an app during their request, Gemini will use the most recently utilized music service.

The company clarified that the Spotify extension is not accessible within Google Messages, the web version of Gemini, or on the iOS platform. Furthermore, users must ensure that the Gemini app on their Android device is set to the English language and that the Gemini Apps Activity is activated. It should also be noted that playing specific songs through the app requires a Spotify Premium subscription.

With these new capabilities, users can request their AI assistant to play a song, album, or playlist and even ask for music suited for a specific occasion or activity. Additionally, they can search for songs by artist names or lyrics and discover playlists based on genre, mood, or activity type. However, the current iteration of Gemini fails to provide the option to generate a Spotify playlist or radio.

To link Spotify with the Gemini app, users should first log into their Spotify account and subsequently connect it to their Google account. After this step, they can access the Gemini app, click on their profile image, then proceed to Extensions, where the Spotify option can be manually activated.

While Google has announced the rollout of this extension, it may take as long as two weeks until it becomes accessible to everyone users worldwide.
