Ghost of Tsushima Steam Launch Surpasses Marvel's Spider-Man and God of War in Player Count

Ghost of Tsushima has spectacularly launched on Steam, outperforming the initial player count of titles such as God of War and Marvel's Spider-Man, among others.

The eagerly awaited Steam debut of Ghost of Tsushima has splendidly succeeded, establishing a new high for concurrent players for a PlayStation game on the renowned PC gaming platform and digital store.

Initially exclusive to PS4 and subsequently upgraded for PS5, the Director's Cut of Ghost of Tsushima made its Steam entrance on May 16. It's achieving remarkable success; currently, it boasts a 'Very Positive' rating based on slightly more than 9,000 reviews. The superb adaptation job by Nixxes Software, a consistent collaborator with PlayStation, significantly contributes to this success.

However, the key highlight, is that Ghost of Tsushima marks the most successful Steam launch of a single-player game by PlayStation Studios so far. Data from the trustworthy gaming statistics site SteamDB reveals that Ghost of Tsushima reached a record-breaking peak of approximately 77,000 concurrent players recently.

This record surpasses the peak concurrent players of God of War at 73,500 on Steam, along with Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered at a peak of 66,400. It even eclipses the Steam releases of Horizon Zero Dawn (56,500) and Horizon Forbidden West (40,400).

Despite this being an exceptionally noteworthy debut week for the latest PC version by PlayStation Studios, it doesn't constitute the publisher's ultimate achievement on Steam. That distinction is held by Helldivers 2, which achieved a staggering peak concurrent player figure of over 458,000, likely aided by its multiplayer nature, comparably lower price, and positive reception for its quality – plus a concurrent release on PC and PS5 featuring crossplay support.

The Director's Cut of Ghost of Tsushima includes all the DLCs previously launched for the game, like the Iki Island expansion and the Legends multiplayer feature. However, it appears linking your PlayStation Network account is necessary for the latter.
